  THERMOGRAPHY

What is thermography?

Thermography is essentially a temperature photograph.

Heat is part of the infrared spectrum located below visible light.

Everything around us emits heat or infrared energy and this can be captured as a picture that can allow for it to be viewed.

In machinery and equipment a localised increase in heat is a likely indicator of a hidden problem.

Detecting and correcting these problems within a scheduled maintenance program can save large, costly and time consuming breakdowns.

Regular surveys and report of potential faults as part of a schedules preventative/predictive program Is highly recommended.
To assist in providing a reliable maintenance schedule we can develop a regular program of surveys and produce reports to assist your maintenance team, keep your plant in optimal condition to avoid those costly and inconvenient plant failures.

  Points of Thermal Interest

Electrical system
Electrical conductors overheating can indicate underrated or overloaded cable
Excessive current draw
Poor or degraded connection

Motors overheating
can indicate
Excessive load
Under rating of motor
Excessive drag on motor
Rotor scuffing on stators
Coil short circuit

Overheating on bearings
can indicate
Bearing life expired
Lack /excess of or wrong lubricant
Incorrect bearing fitting
Incorrect bearing loading
Uneven / misalignment of drive or load
Internal damage to the bearing
Overheating of a bearing can cause the lubricant to breakdown

Overheating of drive belts
can indicate
End of life
Incorrect tension
Misalignments of pulley on drive or/and load

Hotspots on kilns or heating systems can be an early indicator of insulation failure

ALL ELECTRICAL OVERHEATING IS A POTENTIAL FOR A FIRE IN THE PLANT.
